Summary:
Bosko boxes.
Description:
Bosko is practicing
his boxing skills on a punching bag, preparing for his upcoming fight.
Not only does he use his fists but his bottom and his feet as well. Meanwhile,
Honey is reading a newspaper headline that reads "Bosko to Fight
Champion". "What a man!" Honey shouts, as she puts down
the paper and turns on the radio. The radio announcer is plugging the
upcoming fight, and his comment that Bosko may be in for a beating does
not sit well with Honey. Meanwhile, Bosko's opponent, "Gas House
Harry", is also practicing in front of a crowd of admirers. Back
at his gym, Bosko gets a phone call from Honey. She expresses her hope
that Bosko doesn't get hurt, so Bosko starts singing a song about his
boxing prowess, as Honey accompanies on her piano. "Oh boy! If you
can fight like you can sing..." she exclaims. "Just watch me
tonight, Honey!" Bosko replies. The night of the fight arrives, and
hundreds of people are arriving from trolley cars and other, more oddball
means of transportation. Back in her house, Honey is listening to radio
announcer "Graham Cracker" give his account of the match. The
champ enters the arena, followed by Bosko, again touting his abilities
in song ("I'm a hot-shot guy called Bosko, come and watch me do my
stuff!"). Bosko enters the ring by dancing on the ropes, and hopping
off into his corner. Gas House Harry is also in his corner, laughing maniacally.
The referee introduces the fighters, and the starting bell is rung. One
punch from the champ sends Bosko bouncing off all the ropes, then he hits
his head on the fight bell and ends the round! Bosko's canine corner man
drags him back to the corner, fans him with a towel, then sprays his face,
armpits, and crotch with perfume (this causes Bosko to giggle like a little
girl). The next round begins, and a lucky punch by Bosko sends the champ's
ship tattoo sinking into the sea. As they continue to fight, the ostrich
referee tries to push the two fighters apart, but suddenly all three start
prancing off hand-in-hand, and just as suddenly Bosko and the champ play
patty-cake and sock the referee simultaneously. "C'mon Bosko!"
yells a hippo in the audience, while back home Honey listens intently
to the fight broadcast, reacting to each blow. The champ pummels Bosko
like a punching bag, finally sending him flying across the ring. Bosko
is down and the referee starts his count. Honey hears this and runs off
with her dog to the arena. She arrives at the count of 13 (!), and yells
"Bosko! Speak to me!". Bosko sits up in a daze, yells "Aww,
utsnay!", then pulls the canvas over him like a blanket and goes
to sleep.
Notes:
- Some of the fans
seen arriving at the fight (on top of a trolley car) were last seen
arriving at a horse race in Ups 'N Downs (on top of
a cow).
- Heard on the soundtrack:
"Turkey in the Straw", "The Shanty Where Santy Claus
Lives",and "Dance of the Cuckoos" (during the prancing
sequence). [LT&MM]
